James McPherson

James Birdseye McPherson - Major Gen., Union (1828-1864)Leading the new 17th Corp with distinction during the Vicksburg Campaign, McPherson was made Commander of the Army of Tennessee. Died during the Battle of Atlanta (July 22, 1864).

A. P. Hill

Ambrose Powell Hill - Lt. Gen., Confederate (1825-1865) Given command of the new 3rd Corp, upon Jackson's death, illness prevented him influencing events at Gettysburg. He regained control at Cold Harbor and III Corp was the army's "fire-brigade" during Grants many attempts to crack the Petersburg defenses. Killed by stray Union Infantry.

J.E.B. Stuart

James Ewell Brown Stuart - Maj. Gen., Confederate (1833-1864) Distinguished himself at Harper's Ferry. Leading a cavalry regiment at Bull Run, he was soon in command of all mounted troops in the Army of Northern Virginia. Shot and killed in Richmond during the Overland Campaign.
